The Secret Behind Xylitol

The Secret Behind Xylitol - Max Sweets

Did you know?

Xylitol is a lower-calorie sugar substitute with a low glycemic index. Research suggests that it also improves dental health, prevents ear infections, aids in weight loss and contains antioxidant properties.

Xylitol is a sugar alcohol, which is a type of carbohydrate and does not actually contain alcohol. Xylitol occurs naturally in small amounts in fibrous fruits and vegetables, trees, corncobs, and even the human body. We use Xylitol from Birch trees to sweeten Max Mallow.

tooth decay

Tooth plaque inevitably builds up naturally.  The accumulation can increase bacteria behind the eardrum and cause middle ear infections, otitis media (AOM).

2016 systematic review found evidence that chewing foods containing xylitol can reduce the occurrence of AOM from 30 to 22 percent among healthy children.

weight loss

Due to its low GI, xylitol is also a weight loss-friendly sugar substitute. A  2015 study revealed that xylitol had significant blood glucose-lowering effects in rats that ate high-fat diets.

antioxidant properties

Xylitol has antioxidant properties. A 2014 study showed Diabetic rats who ate xylitol produced higher amounts of glutathione. This is an antioxidant that counteracts the harmful effects of free radicals.
